I was able to take the SC-900 Microsoft certification exam a few weeks ago. This is how I passed it, but of course, it will be different for everyone.
It did take a few weeks before I received the exam results, but I was delighted to see that I passed the SC-900 exam. I know what you are thinking, is the SC-900 like the other fundamental certifications?
SC-900 did require me to understand the basics like the other fundamental certs, but I really can’t stress enough that you will need to study for this one. You shouldn’t have to spend 1-2 months like the other certification, but you should spend 1-2 weeks. Let’s jump into it!
First we need to understand what we will be measured on:
- Describe the concepts of security, compliance, and identity (5-10%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft identity and access management solutions (25-30%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft security solutions (30-35%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft compliance solutions (25-30%)

Free Azure Account
I also highly recommend that you create a free Azure account to try out the Azure services and get familiar with the Azure platform. If you already created one before, simply create another one with a different email account, just remember two major things. Delete resources when you are done using them and configure budget alerts.
If you don’t have an Azure account yet, you can sign up today for your free Azure account and receive 12 months of free popular services, $200 free credit, and 25+ always free services.
